A new autobiographical project by Berlin-based circus group Still Hungry in collaboration with British artist Bryony Kimmings. “Show Pony” is a frank look at the situation of female contemporary circus artists in the context of passing time, their reaching middle age, and the inexorable standards of this performing art form, which requires artists (and performers) not only to be incredibly fit, but even to constantly push the limits of their own abilities. It is also a picture of the circus from behind the scenes, a conversation about what we never see, about what we are not meant to see. “Show Pony” is at the same time a performance that boldly questions stereotypes about the art of circus, but also about women, age, aging – on and off stage. In it, three women talk about their professional experiences, their passions, their need to overcome their own limitations, but also try to decide how they can go on living or whether they should go on living at all. Their story about work, about their own desires and dreams, about challenges and sacrifices, also becomes a story about the strength of friendship, which can stand the test of time and change – professional and otherwise.

still hungry is a contemporary circus collective from Berlin made up of three female artists: Romy Seibt, Lena Ries and Anke van Engelshoven, Their work, while playful and touching, reaches for difficult personal themes, providing an important feminist voice. Bryony Kimmings is a British writer, performer and director. Her work focuses mainly on ‘social experimentation’, often surprising to provoke reflection and lead to change.
